Judge Chantelle Porter

Circuit Court Judge – 18th Judicial Circuit, DuPage County, Illinois

Judge Chantelle C. Porter is a Circuit Court Judge in the 18th Judicial Circuit of DuPage County, Illinois. She was unanimously appointed to the bench by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2022 and elected to a full term in 2024. Judge Porter is the first Black Circuit Court Judge in DuPage County.

Judge Porter is currently assigned to Juvenile Court, where she presides over child protection and juvenile justice matters. Her work includes overseeing cases involving abuse, neglect, dependency, and delinquency.

In addition to her courtroom duties, Judge Porter serves on the Illinois Supreme Court Committee on Guardian ad Litem Education, is a member of the Illinois Juvenile Justice Leadership Council, and is faculty with the Illinois Judicial College, where she provides training on juvenile law.

Prior to her judicial appointment, Judge Porter’s legal career focused on child advocacy and juvenile law. She began her practice at the Cook County Public Guardian’s Office, where she represented children in the foster care system. She later served in the DuPage County Public Defender’s Office, where she supervised the Juvenile Division. Judge Porter also practiced as a Guardian ad Litem in DuPage County and was a partner at A. Traub & Associates, concentrating on family law and child-related matters.

Judge Porter earned her Bachelor of Arts from The Ohio State University and her Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law.
